Slovenian designers exhibition series

Robert Žvokelj: visual communications

design: Peter Skalar
introduction: Ranko Novak, Petra Černe Oven
translation: Hana Cirman
language: slovenian, english
year of publication: 2018
number of pages: 40

15,00 €

“I could draw a parallel with Alan Fletcher’s quote (I know you’re fond of him)—when students asked what his most valuable and used piece of equipment in the studio was, he answered: ‘My head’. I think that Žvokelj’s attitude towards visual communications is similar. It’s not the (computer) equipment, but rather one’s intelligence that’s key to good design.” Petra Černe Oven

Nejc Prah

design: Peter Skalar
introduction: Aljaž Vindiš
translation: Borut Praper
language: slovenian, english
year of publication: 2017
number of pages: 30

15,00 €

“However, who is the person behind the garish images and brilliant achievements? Is he really anything like his works reveal him to be? You are in for a surprise: he is actually a very modest guy. When he talks about himself, other people are always smarter, funnier, more profiled. What about him? He claims he’s still searching for himself.” Aljaž Vindiš

Aljaž Vindiš: data+design

design: Peter Skalar
introduction: Vojko Flegar
translation: Borut Praper
language: slovenian, english
year of publication: 2016
number of pages: 40

15,00 €

“Due to the incredibly positive response to the Objektivno section, which became one of the most recognisable ‘trademarks’ of the Dnevnik newspaper, a small team of similarly young infographic journalists gathered around Aljaž, in cooperation with Ačko. Under Aljaž’s mentorship this team has ultimately established visual journalism in Slovenia […] and received the highest national and international acknowledgements.” Vojko Flegar

objectively (*)tomato

design: Peter Skalar
introduction: Miran Lesjak, Samo Ačko
translation: Borut Praper
language: slovenian, english
year of publication: 2016
number of pages: 44

15,00 €

“Tomato’s work is based on the solid foundation of a powerful idea, with no room left for the increasingly common formalism. As such, he was one of the best suited candidates for Objektiv covers, even if at the time I mostly knew him as a typographer and creator of inspired visual communications and posters. […] What followed was four years of minor miracles, with almost fifty covers, several national and international awards, as Tomato matured into an authority and world-class author.” Samo Ačko

Nenad Cizl

design: Peter Skalar
introduction: Vesna Teržan
translation: Borut Praper
language: slovenian, english
year of publication: 2015
number of pages: 40

15,00 €

“[Cizl’s] illustrations tell their stories: the personal ones are mysterious, occasionaly surreal metamorphoses, transforming thoughts and emotions into fantastic shapes. Everything has to have a story, a plot that takes you further and gives you momentum, no matter if it is a narrative, script, event, joke, fairy tale, dream or momentary thought.” Vesna Teržan

language: slovenian
year of publication: 2011
number of pages: 504

40,00 €

“The designer Miljenko Licul has left a historic mark on the visual identification of the Slovene state. Critically speaking, we can say that in its cultural communicative power he has cogently imprinted a design language that is a model of originality and identity: signs and symbols created in his own orthography as the basic conceptual and developmental semiotic vocabulary of a systematically integrated visual (graphic-design) communication.” Stane Bernik

Henryk Tomaszewski

design: Radovan Jenko
editing: Radovan Jenko
texts: Hugues Boekraad
translation: Tina Škoberne
language: slovenian
year of publication: 2016
number of pages: 104

35,00 €

“Henryk Tomaszewski is considered to be the doyen of the Polish poster school, having imposed his stamp both as designer and teacher at the Warsaw Academy of Art. Taking the past half century of Polish culture into consideration, one is immediately struck by how strongly his persona is manifested in his work. Face to face with the massive ideological blocks of nationalism, Catholicism and communism he developed his own visual language.” Hugues Boekraad
